Hudson Aquatic Systems
Revolutionizing Equine Therapy
Hudson Aquatic Systems is proud to be at the forefront of innovation in equine therapy with our advanced aquatic systems designed specifically for the needs of horses. Our state-of-the-art equipment is transforming the way horse owners, trainers, and veterinarians approach rehabilitation, conditioning, and overall wellness for their equine companions.
Innovative Products for Equine Health
Our product line includes the AquaPacer Pro, AquaPacer Plus, and AquaPacer Platinum systems, each engineered to deliver unparalleled therapeutic benefits. The AquaPacer series underwater treadmills provide low-impact, high-resistance exercise, promoting faster recovery and enhanced fitness without the stress on joints and tendons typical of traditional land-based workouts.
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy offers numerous advantages for horses, including improved joint flexibility, muscle strength, and cardiovascular health. The buoyancy of water reduces the weight-bearing load on the horse’s limbs, minimizing the risk of injury while enabling a full range of motion. This is particularly beneficial for horses recovering from surgery or injury, as well as those with chronic conditions such as arthritis. Additionally, the resistance of water provides an effective means of building strength and endurance in a safe environment.
Success with the AquaPacer
Unbridled Equine, a rehab and performance training facility, utilizes the AquaPacer Platinum underwater treadmill for a variety of injuries. Recently, the AquaPacer was used in the rehabilitation of Bluer than Blue J (Blu), a horse who competes in Western Pleasure riding. Blu suffered a fractured hock after casting in his stall, leaving his future in the show ring questionable. The Unbridled Equine staff and Blu’s vet developed a strict rehab plan with the goal of a full recovery. Blu’s treatment consisted of stall rest followed by hand walking sessions to desensitize him to the AquaPacer. Once cleared, Blu began his AquaPacer regimen with hot water at belly height for maximum buoyancy, reducing stress on the newly healed fracture. Starting with slow-paced, 3-minute sessions, the treadmill speed and session times gradually increased. Following this plan, Blu made a full recovery and returned to the show ring, winning multiple championships, and competing in the US Nationals.

The Importance of Nutrition with Rehab or Injury
Does your horse’s diet check all the boxes for their rehab & recovery?
• Quality Protein – amino acids are essential in muscle repair & maintenance.
• Minerals – needed for the formation, maintenance, and repair of joints and bones, connective tissues (ligaments and tendons), hoof integrity, skin health, synthesis of collagen, immune system, and more.
• Vitamins – involved in bone remodeling, maintenance of tissues, immune response, and antioxidants.
• High-Quality Forage – maintaining fiber content in the diet is crucial for hindgut health and motility; never feed less than 1.5% of your horse’s body weight per day.
Vitamins and minerals have a sensitive relationship and work together in several metabolic functions. If either is deficient or in excessive excess in the diet, it can impact their roles.
When feeding only hay, your horse’s diet will be deficient in vitamins and possibly have an imbalanced and deficient mineral profile. Having a balanced, complete diet is imperative to promote overall health and soft tissue recovery. The diet should also be addressed and adjusted when the horse’s activity level decreases during layup and reevaluated again as the horse’s activity level goes up during rehab. As always, provide your horse with fresh clean water.
Stable Mix feeds contain high-quality forage, a comprehensive vitamin & mineral package, as well as the bonus of premium gut health support. Check all the boxes with Stable Mix complete feeds and more! Take all the guesswork out of feeding a balanced diet and keeping your horse at a healthy body score during layup and rehab.
