In addition to San Diego Padres baseball, Petco Park has hosted concerts, football games, motocross, and golf — and you can now add rodeo to the growing list.
The Padres on Tuesday announced the first-ever rodeo is coming to the downtown San Diego ballpark in 2024, with the inaugural San Diego Rodeo being held Jan. 12-14.
The Padres are hosting the event in partnership with C5 Rodeo Company Inc. and Outriders Present — two organizations with a long history of producing rodeos.
Providing services to events at over 40 locations worldwide, C5 Rodeo Co. is recognized in the world of rodeo for their innovative approach to rodeo production and award-winning world-class stock. Home to one of the largest bucking horse suppliers in North America, C5 Rodeo operates out of Lac La Biche, Alberta and Helena, Montana, which span just over 12,000 acres combined.
Outriders Presents produces rodeo and independent country music events across Montana and California, with one such upcoming Southern California show including Wild Horses Festival with Zach Bryan, CAAMP and more at Petco Park on December 30.
San Diego Padres majority owner Peter Seidler has a brother who is a rancher in Montana. The family has long been fans of rodeos and the cowboy lifestyle.
Padres CEO Erik Greupner said, “We look forward to welcoming fans from all over the country to Petco Park for a true rodeo experience in the heart of San Diego.”
According to the Padres, the three-day event will feature 12 contestants competing for $620,000 in prize money. Three days of top cowboys doing their thing. Notable cowboys scheduled to participate include Stetson Wright and Rocker Steiner, two incredible cowboys with incredible cowboy names that sound almost made up.
The three-day family-friendly event will feature 12 contestants in each Rodeo event with The first two rounds will take place on Friday & Saturday, with the semi-finals and finals being settled on Sunday.
General public tickets for the San Diego Rodeo go on sale Monday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. Padres members will have early access to tickets starting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 18.
Each ticket is a single-day pass, the team said.
