Junior NFR Champions to Receive Exemption to RFD-TV’s The American Semi-Finals

Eight champions from the Junior NFR will compete at The American Semi-Finals February 14th-24th in Fort Worth, TX.

For the first time, RFD-TV’s The American and the Junior NFR, presented by YETI, have partnered to advance eight select champions to The American Semi-Finals. Since, The American’s inaugural year, exemptions have been presented to select organizations to bring their athletes to the Semi-Finals. Exemptions are special invitations that showcase elite rodeo athletes in their respective events and provides them the chance to compete in the Semi-Finals with a possibility to compete at “The World’s Richest One-Day Rodeo.”

The following champions from the Junior NFR will receive a Semi-Finals exemption:

  • KK’s Run for Vegas 16 & under Barrel Racing Champion
  • KK’s Run for Vegas 11 & under Barrel Racing Champion

RFD-TV’s The American Semi-Finals will be held the week of February 14th-24th in Fort Worth, TX where 600+ qualifier athletes from around the world will gather to compete in five days of action-packed competition.

“The American was created to help the sport of rodeo and to create an event that allows youth to look up to,” said Randy Bernard of RFD-TV’s The American. “Anything that we can do with youth that encourages them to take part in our great sport is a positive.”

Last year’s Semi-Finals paid out almost $1 million in prize money where forty-six qualifying athletes advanced to the 2017 RFD-TV’s The American. Three qualifiers went on to become champions in their respective events and split the $1 million side-pot.

This year, RFD-TV’s The American will be held on February 25, 2018, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Qualifiers from the seven traditional rodeo events (bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding) will go head-to-head with the Top 10 World Champion athletes to vie for the $1 million payout. If a qualifier wins their respective event, not only will they win the championship check of $100,000, they are entitled to the share of the $1 million qualifier side-pot.
