The country’s largest Iberian horse show, the Andalusian World Cup (AWC), is only weeks away and the show’s organizer Andalusian World has announced several new show developments.
“With the show just around the corner, we’ve been getting many inquiries regarding show details such as prizes and prize money, judges, and special entertainment,” says Andalusian World co-founder Kevin Kidder. “We’ve been hard at work bringing together distinguished show officials from several countries, fabulous entertainment, and great prizes to make the 2017 AWC the premier Iberian show of the year. Most of the specifics are in place and we’re thrilled to make the following announcements.”
Prize money will be offered for both AWC Supreme Championship classes and Working Equitation divisions. For AWC Supreme Championship classes, $750 will go to Champions and $250 to Reserve Champions. A total of $5,000 in cash prizes will be divided among the first through third place competitors in the eight Working Equitation class categories.
For the fourth consecutive year, custom saddle maker Dale Chavez has provided a beautiful Western Pleasure saddle which will go to the winner of the Supreme Champion Western Pleasure class. And, there will be many other prizes, ribbons and random drawing gift items for competitors, including two complete sets of tires from Firestone.
Judges for most divisions are confirmed as follows:
ANCCE: Morphology – Antón Vázquez (Spain); Functionality – Juan Heredia (Spain).
APSL: Judging/ Revision – Nuno Santos Pereira (Portugal)
AWC Halter & Performance: Terry Jones Brennan (R – California), Chris Culbreth (R – Arizona), and Jeff Vogel (R – Missouri).
Dressage/DSHB: Melissa Creswick (S – California), Janet Curtis (S – California).
Working Equitation: Tarrin Warren (R – Texas), Nuno Santos Pereira (Portugal), Isabel Dorronsoro (Columbia).
The Saturday evening entertainment will feature a traditional Working Equitation and Garrocha exhibition by Miguel Undabarrena, and an Advanced Equitation demonstration.
New classes added for 2017 include a Gelding Sport Horse class, Junior Horse Dressage Suitability, a Partbred Driving Championship, and (for competitor and spectator fun) a Bareback Jackpot.
Scheduled for September 20-23, 2017 at the world class South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, the Andalusian World Cup draws a sizeable audience from across the U.S., and also includes participants from Mexico, Canada, Spain and Portugal. The live streaming broadcast is expected to reach an average of 45,000 viewers from 72 countries. The show is open to all horses with papers from any recognized Iberian Horse registry, including Andalusian, P.R.E., Lusitano, Azteca and many other crosses
New this year, AWC has introduced a sale horse program. Participating sale horses will be listed in a professional sale catalog and will be showcased during the show. Sale horse stalls will be individually marked, and barn tours will be scheduled for prospective buyers. “This is a great opportunity for both buyers and sellers to see all kinds of prospects in one convenient location,” says Kidder. “We’re excited to provide this unique program.”
