California thoroughbred race fans may well remember BALANCE THE BOOKS as a top contender in the 2012 Santa Anita Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf Mile.
In 2015, BALANCE THE BOOKS was sold privately to EAS Equine Alliance, LLC, and moved to Southern California to begin his new career as a breeding stallion. His first foals out of stakes winning mares are due in 2017.
Race History
At 2, Kentucky bred BALANCE THE BOOKS broke his maiden in his second race at New York’s Saratoga, winning the $200,000 Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes (1 1/16 mi, turf). Starting his move from last place, he closed fast defeating Grade 1 stakes winner JOHA, Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Sprint Stakes winner HIGHTAIL, and Grade 1-placing stakes winner CHARMING KITTEN, etc.
BALANCE THE BOOKS followed that victory with another thrilling burst of closing speed, to win Keeneland’s $150,000 Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes (1 1/16 mi). Finishing off his 2 year old race season with another fast close, he placed a close third in the $1,000,000 Grade 1 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf (1 mi) at Santa Anita, over Group 1 multimillionaire and Champion LINES OF BATTLE, etc.
Returning to New York, BALANCE THE BOOKS, continued his winning ways at three, taking the win at Saratoga’s $100,000 Stroll Stakes after chasing down Grade 1 Arlington Million stakes winner HARDEST CORE. Soon thereafter, injuries forced his retirement from racing.
