450-Plus Pairs Ready for The Spring Event at Woodside

May 24-26 at the Horse Park at Woodside

Over 450 horse/rider pairs are set to contest The Spring Event at Woodside this weekend, including the 11th annual Preliminary Challenge with $30,000 in cash and prizes.

Friday May 24 opens with six rings of dressage competition and Saturday sees both cross-country and show jumping for the nearly 50 Preliminary Challenge participants. This special division will go cross-country over a track designed by Bert Wood on Ian Stark’s recently upgraded course at the Horse Park. A giant tent near the North Water Complex is a Saturday morning fan addition, featuring splash-close views of the complex and live streaming from the rest of the course.

Saturday evening, it’s the social event of the season: The Preliminary Challenge show jumping dinner gala. That’s after the top 10 pairs in the horse and rider divisions jump in reverse order of their standings for a suspenseful finalé in the Grand Prix arena. Get tickets at www.woodsideeventing.com/tickets.

Another Preliminary Challenge highlight is the $1,000 High Point OTTB Award, sponsored by Golden Gate Fields and CANTER to promote the well-being of Thoroughbreds during and after their racing careers.

Tell Friends & Family!

The weekend presents an ideal opportunity to introduce new fans to equestrian sports. Along with Intro through Advanced competition all weekend, “Super Saturday” features a 4 p.m. informational talk with Rob Burk, CEO of US Eventing, about the sport. And, the United States Pony Club’s booth will be staffed with friendly members happy to answer questions about getting involved with horses. Both can be found in the pavilion area near the show office, along with shopping and dining vendors.

The Spring Event at Woodside is anchored on Auburn Laboratories’ calendar, says Michael Van Noy, the veterinarian who founded the company with his wife, Joy, an eventer. They met in the marvelous milieu of the eventing world and Dr. Van Noy believes they’ve been attending the Spring Event almost since its inception. The makers of APF Formula and APF Pro for horses, and AdaptaFuel for people, Auburn Labs is a presenting sponsor this year.

With a competitive field full of Auburn Labs friends and APF-powered horses and riders, the Van Noys wouldn’t miss it. “There’s a lot of excitement and attention around The Preliminary Challenge and the whole competition is really fun to watch,” Dr. Van Noy notes. “It’s late enough in the spring that many horses are really starting to hit their stride. It’s great fun to see the high level and keenness of competition.”

Visit the Auburn Labs booth in the pavilion area for free samples of AdaptaFuel. With all the action going on this weekend, you’ll need the extra boost of high-quality energy to keep up.

Visit the booths of fellow Spring Event presenting sponsors Devoucoux, CWD and Parker Equine Insurance, too. Great products represented by good people!
