September 12-18, 2016 found IALHA members from areas across the United States and Canada, coming together to compete in this years Nationals in South Jordan, Utah.
Horses came from Texas, and Illinois, as well as, California, Washington, Utah, Minnesota, Wyoming and other states.
The show began with a dressage show, morphology and performace classes followed, including a full slate of Working Equitation classes. The show included specialty classes on Sunday for both the Lusitano and the pure Spanish horses. These were judged by international judges from Portugal and Spain respectively. On Wednesday through Saturday, the three judge panel of USEF judges, judged National Halter and Performance classes. The USEF judges included the Honorable Chris Bickford, Karen Homer-Brown, and Kit Calafato. Our prestiges dressage judge was the Honorable Cesar Torrente, FEI, judge from Columbia, and our Working Equitation Judge was the Honorable Wayne Hipsley.
The 2016 show began with a Welcome Banquet hosted by the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse, on Tuesday evening. The National Show Committee took the opportunity to recognize Nadine Tilley of Tilley Andalusians for her lifelong commitment to the Andalusian and Lusitano horse and her many years of work with the IALHA to promote, breed, and show these beautiful horses. Ms Tilley was presented with an original artwork done by artist Kasia Bukowska. Ms. Bukowska has had her work displayed at both The Hive Gallery and the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA. As the winner of the 2016 IALHA International Art Contest, her work was featured on the show program and as the promotional design on t-shirts sold at the show. The piece will also be a part of the 2017 IALHA calendar to be released later this year.
Saturday evening feature a special presentation with the Parade of Champions and a special show “Believe in Magic”. Entry to the evening required a donation to the Utah Food Bank, and was enjoyed by all. The wonderful champions and the thrilling display of magic, which only the magic of horses and riders can achieve.
In addition to the classes featured in the IALHA show premium the IALHA /USEF hosted a judges training seminar during four days of classes. Serving as instructor, the Honorable Wayne Hipsley, taught this in depth, hands on seminar. The National Show gave the judging candidates an unprecedented opportunity to learn about judging from a well respected USEF judge, asking questions, and hearing firsthand the many facets required to judge the Andalusian/Lusitano divisions at USEF sanctioned shows. Questions regarding the rules, order, morphology, movement, etc. were discussed both during actual classes and later in a classroom setting. The diverse nature of the candidates allowed for interesting and diverse views.
